Dr. Yedidya Itzhaki is an architect, literary researcher, and critic, who lectures on Hebrew Literature and Jewish Studies at Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel. Dr. Itzhaki previously taught at Natal University, Durban, South Africa, and at the Shazar College in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He is the author of numerous studies and articles in Hebrew, and on comparative literature, as well as on Jewish and Israeli culture. Dr. Itzhaki was the editor of Alei Siah, a literary journal, and is on the editorial board of the quarterly Yahadut Hofshit. He is the author of two books: The Concealed Verses (Bar-Ilan University Press, 1992), which investigates source materials in the works of the Israeli novelist A. B.Yehoshua; and Be-Rosh Galooy (Haifa University Press, 2000), currently being translated into English and to be published as "The Uncovered Head”: Principles of Jewish Secularity.
The essay, “Israel Between Democracy and Religion,” is a sub-chapter of Dr. Itzhaki’s book.
