College Committees 2021-2022

  • Academic Assessment Committee

    Christine Gustafson, Ph.D., Dean of Academic Excellence, Chair

    The academic assessment committee is charged with addressing student learning outcomes at the college-wide, general education, and departmental levels. This charge includes assuring that the college conforms to best practices in assessing student learning, awarding credit, and in meeting academic accreditation standards more generally.

  • Alumni Council

    Kathleen (Leidemer) Mahan, '02 President

    Patrice Russell, Assistant Vice President, Alumni Relations and Advancement Programming, Liaison

    The alumni council serves as the primary liaison between the alumni and the college with an emphasis on strengthening the relationships between the college and its alumni.

  • Athletics Compliance

    David Guerra, Ph.D., Professor, Physics and Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), Chair 

    The athletics committee's function is to advise the director of athletics on the operation of the intercollegiate and intramural athletic programs of the college.

  • Bean Distinguished Lecture Series

    John Dillon, MLS, Interim Librarian, Chair

    The committee presents a distinguished lecturer series for the enrichment of the college community and the public-at-large via an endowment from the Norwin S. and Elizabeth N. Bean Foundation.

  • Budget Advisory Committee

    Ashely Major, Assistant Vice President, Finance, Chair

    The committee participates with the college administration in assuring that budgetary goals and priorities are met within the overall strategic goals and mission of the college. The committee, as an advisory body, provides recommendations to the senior leadership committee for decision making during the budgeting cycle as well as initial recommendations for strategic priority investment.

  • Campus Safety

    Erica Raiche, Assistant Director, Human Resources-Benefits and Wellness, Liaison

    The committee's purpose is to conduct an ongoing program of inspection of all accidents and to make recommendations on other matters that affect the safety of college personnel and college liability.

  • College Advisory Council

    Joseph Favazza, Ph.D., President, Chair

    The college advisory council advises the president on various matters of importance to the college, especially those having to do with the strengthening of the student experience.

  • College Health

    Maura Marshall, ARNP, MSN, Director of College Health Services, Chair

    The college health committee exercises oversight of the operation of the health and counseling services, and, when appropriate, forwards recommendations to the president of the college.

  • Conduct Review Panel

    The conduct review panel ensures conformity with federal law. At the direction of the Dean of Students and the Title IX coordinator, the conduct review panel is convened to review Title IX complaints involving incidents that arise to a level that supersedes independent courses of action and/or informal resolutions, and which require intervention. Hearings are conducted in particular situations such as sexual harassment or sexual misconduct.

  • Core Council for Gay and Lesbian Students

    Karlea Brunelle-Joiner, Ph.D., Assistant Dean of Students, Chair

    The core council acts as a resource to the Dean of Students in identifying the ongoing needs of gay and lesbian students and assists in implementing campus-wide educational programming on sexual orientation issues.

  • Council on Being Catholic and Benedictine

    Sue Gabert Ed.D., Director of Campus Ministry, Chair

    The council's purpose is to enable the college to promote, integrate and maintain its commitment to developing and promoting a sustainable culture that is explicitly Catholic and Benedictine. The council assists the president in ensuring that the college's Catholic, Benedictine heritage and values are integrated throughout the college community.

  • Curriculum Committee

    Mark W. Cronin, Ph.D., Dean of the College, Chair

    The curriculum committee's function is to give consideration to departmental recommendations submitted to it through the dean of the college in building and maintaining a curriculum carefully constructed to attain the aims of the college. It approves new curricular offerings, and through the president, may recommend to the Faculty Senate, the chancellor, and trustees modifications of existing academic policies or the establishment or elimination of an academic department.

  • Environmental Stewardship Committee

    The environmental stewardship committee provides leadership in enacting the strategic plan objective #23, reduce the environmental impact of the campus by implementing green initiatives throughout campus and incorporating sustainable design principles in all facility and building projects. The committee adheres to the core values of respect for the environment and sustainable living as a local and global environmental citizen and living the Benedictine value of stewardship for the environment and the earth.

  • Faculty Development Committee

     

    This committee's purpose is to administer the summer research grant program and the common fund for faculty development. The committee reviews the college faculty development program and makes recommendations for modification to the dean and the faculty senate.

  • Fr. Bernard Holmes, O.S.B., Senior Student Award

    Rebecca Crisafulli, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Modern Languages, Chair

    The Holmes endowment was established in 1985 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Davison in honor of Father Bernard G. Holmes, O.S.B. The purpose of the award is to encourage students to emulate and carry into the world those personal qualities of heart and mind that the donors found so admirable in Father Bernard. The award includes the senior year tuition and fees. Academically eligible junior students must be nominated by a full-time faculty member, member of the Monastic community or an administrator in order to be considered for this award. The student must also meet the following requirements of the award: demonstrated concern for and assistance to others; appreciation for the life of the mind (a love of learning); participation in the life of the College; exhibit clear potential for leadership. The committee reviews all nominations and makes a recommendation or recommendations to the President.

  • Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC)

    Steven McDevitt, Chief Information Officer, Chair

    The council provides advice, guidance, and assistance on matters concerning information technology operations and planning, investments and priorities, policy, and evaluation and assessment of emerging technology. In an advisory capacity, the council assists the chief information officer and vice president for administration in reviewing information technology strategic and tactical plans in reference to college academic and administrative priorities, and provides advisory recommendations to the senior leadership team concerning campus-wide information technology capital expenditures and recommends policy to the President's Cabinet.

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

    Lori LaPlante, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Biology and Animal Use and Care Coordinator, Chair

    The IACUC oversees the college's animal program, facilities and procedures in accordance with the Public Health Service policy on humane care and use of laboratory animals

  • Institutional Review Board (IRB)

    Elizabeth Rickenbach, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Psychology, Chair

    The IRB protects the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in scientific or behavioral research conducted under the auspices of the college. The IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in, or disapprove all research activities that fall within its jurisdiction as specified by both federal regulations and college policy.

  • Intellectual Property and Rights Committee

    The intellectual property and rights committee monitors and reviews technological and legislative changes affecting intellectual property policy and reports to relevant persons and administrative bodies, when such changes affect existing policies. The committee serves as a forum for the receipt and discussion of proposals to change existing institutional policy.

  • Judiciary Board

    The judiciary board reviews cases which would involve a student's long term suspension or dismissal from the college. The board is an impartial body designed to ensure that such matters are heard and adjudicated in a fair and confidential manner.

  • Melucci Scholarship Committee

    Joseph Favazza, Ph.D., President, Liaison

    Thomas and Gail Melucci established the scholarship as a memorial honoring their son, Thomas Jr. '88, his love of life and learning. The Melucci scholarship provides full tuition scholarships to seniors who have demonstrated spiritual and personal growth during their undergraduate career.

  • New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) Academic Advisory Committee

    The NHIOP academic advisory committee has oversight of the NHIOP Distinguished Speaker Series, NHIOP Faculty Research Incentive Fund, and the Gordon Scholar Program, as well as overarching responsibility for the development of strong academic and research programs and self-sustaining grant revenues.

  • New Student Orientation

    Ben Horton, Assistant Dean for Freshmen and Director of Academic Advisement, Chair
    Jean Couture, Director, Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, Co-Chair

    The new student orientation committee plans, administers, and reviews the new student orientations throughout the academic year: the August orientation, the January orientation, and the June advising sessions.

  • President's Committee on Diversity & Inclusiveness

    Ande Diaz, Ph.D., Chief Diversity Officer, Chair

    The purposes of the president's steering committee on inclusiveness are to: 1) maintain the institutional focus on inclusiveness as a high priority goal for the college; 2) collaboratively implement, monitor, and report on institutional progress toward inclusiveness goals identified in the inclusiveness strategic plan; 3) plan and oversee further institution-wide education and training on inclusiveness; 4) serve as a clearinghouse and resource for college departments in supporting inclusiveness planning; and 5) initiate specific proposals for external funding to further inclusiveness strategic goals.

  • Retention Committee

    Stephanie Fernandez, Assistant Dean of Sophomores and Student Support Services, Chair

    The purpose of the retention committee is to assess, plan and ensure implementation of strategies to enhance the college's retention efforts; oversee data collection, analysis, and maintenance to systematically use in decision-making for retention initiatives; monitor best practices in retention and make recommendations for implementation of select initiatives as appropriate; systematically identify and evaluate criteria for at-risk categories of students; collaborate and coordinate with select departments and groups involved in retention efforts; disseminate retention data and initiatives to engage the entire college community.

  • Saint Anselm Commission on the Arts (SACA)

    Bro. Isaac Murphy, OSB, Executive Vice President, Chair

    The mission and purpose of SACA is to promote inter-disciplinary communication and the practice of the arts, as well as heighten awareness of the arts in the Saint Anselm College community. The commission is chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and in addition to the VPAA, is comprised of the Dean of Students and the Directors of Abbey Players, Chapel Art Center, Dana Center; Chair of Fine Arts (or his/her designee); two faculty members, and two student members.

  • Staff Council

    The staff advisory council provides staff with a mechanism in which to promote an effective exchange of information between staff and Saint Anselm College administration. The staff advisory council shares information, discusses ideas, and provides input and assistance to the administration to help improve the quality of the environment, morale and productivity at the college.

  • Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC)

    Liaison

    The student athletic advisory committee advises the director of athletics on the operation of the intercollegiate and intramural athletic programs of the college to ensure quality athletics at Saint Anselm College.

  • Study Abroad Review Committee

    Jane Bjerklie-Barry, Director, Study Abroad, Chair

    The study abroad committee reviews faculty-led, short-term study abroad program proposals, and makes recommendations about those and other study abroad programs to the vice president for academic affairs

  • Traffic Board of Appeals

    Robert Browne, Director of Safety and Security, Liaison

    The traffic board of appeals reviews and makes judgments on cases of appeal with regard to violations of campus traffic regulations as published by the office of safety and security.

  • Tuition, Enrollment and Financial Aid (TEFA)

    Elizabeth Keuffel, Director, Financial Aid, Co-Chair
    Steve Goetsch, Vice President for Enrollment, Co-Chair

    In support of the strategic direction, "Advancing the Reputation and Reach", and guided by the mission, vision and overall strategic plan of Saint Anselm College, the committee is charged to serve in an advisory capacity to the President on enrollment goals and financial aid packaging.
