UNDERGRADUATES OF SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE WHO HAVE COMPLETED A DEGREE IN ENGLISH develop proficiency in

  1. Performing close reading and analysis of literary works written in English across history;
  2. Identifying and appreciating distinct styles of literary expression and aesthetic value;
  3. Recognizing how literary interpretations respond to social, cultural, and historical contexts as well as power relations and human differences;
  4. Engaging diverse literary theories and critical approaches;
  5. Writing expressive, communicative, purposeful prose or poetry;
  6. Deploying the power of writing as a tool to communicate information, ideas, and arguments to a range of academic and professional audiences;
  7. Designing and working, independently and collaboratively, on researched projects;
  8. Giving substantive presentations of original works of scholarship or creative practice;

  4. Possess knowledge and skills in oral, written, and visual communication applicable to professional and post-graduate pursuits.
  5. Have the ability to produce extensive writing and research projects in communication, rhetoric, and media studies. 
  6. Recognize how communication shapes identity, culture, and democracy.
  7. Have the ability to articulate how cultural standpoints affect communication and worldviews.
