Book by Roger O. Hirson
Originally directed and choreographed on Broadway by Bob Fosse
Once upon a time in the Holy Roman Empire (780 A. D.) a young prince named Pippin, son of King Charlemagne the Great, longs to discover the secret of true happiness and purpose in life. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power. Eventually he realizes that he must take his happiness where he can find it and he becomes content in the simple pleasures of home and family.
Built upon an energetic score by three-time Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), this musical bursts with one show-stopping number after another. Songs such as “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky” headline this memorable score. The equally strong storyline is a work of startling maturity that teaches a good lesson about what is really important in life. Another “must see” musical by the Abbey Players last performed in 2006.
