Title IX—part of a 1972 federal education law—prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.

Sexual harassment and sexual violence are forms of sex discrimination. Saint Anselm College is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, including based upon sex.

Overview

Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 states:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

— Title IX Section 1681

Title IX applies to all educational institutions, both public and private, that receive federal funds. Saint Anselm College, whose students are recipients of such Federal funding, such as Financial Aid, must abide by Title IX regulations.  The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Education enforces Title IX. OCR has the authority to develop policy on the regulations it enforces.

Marcie Vaughan is the Title IX Coordinator at Saint Anselm College. Her job is to oversee and coordinate the college's compliance with Title IX.
