What To Do with Nearly 3,000 Amazing, Presidential Books?
February 23, 2018 | NH Institute of Politics
"The Presidency Unfurled: Context, Landmarks, Legacy" is a special collection gifted to the NH Institute of Politics by Arthur P. Young, Ph.D. and Patricia F. Young. Dr. Arthur Young served as director of several libraries and amassed this collection of biographies, memoirs, and monographs over a 25-year span that began simply as an interest in “the changing perceptions of presidential performance across time.” Several presidential biographical series are held in their entirety. Publication dates range from the 1900s to the present.
Charles Getchell, librarian, and Christine Clayton, head of Cataloging and Metadata of the Geisel Library will provide an overview of the Young’s wide-ranging collection, including how it came to be, applying the Library of Congress Classification System (LCC) for best arrangement, and its usability.
Throughout the year, Sarah Hummel, ’19 and Matthew Solomon, ’20 will display select volumes from the collection to highlight presidents and historic events.
We invite you to join us for this introduction to “The Presidency Unfurled” and enjoy this very special collection at the Institute throughout the year!
