The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the college Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) as part of several acts of Coronavirus Relief.

See below for an explanation of the HEERF Awards and how they have or will be distributed to students:

  • HEERF I (CARES)

    SAC Facts & Circumstances

Reporting Requirement for (a)(1) Student Aid Portion

Saint Anselm College signed and submitted a Certification and Agreement to the Department of Education on May 13, 2020 which assures that the College intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Saint Anselm College received approval for an allocation of $567,338 on May 19th, 2020 for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students

The College determined that 1,215 students were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

The College initially determined that eligible 2019-2020 Pell recipients would be allocated up to $800 and all other eligible students would be allocated up to $400.

Applications were emailed to all eligible students. The applications gathered information on the type of eligible expense the student incurred as a result of the College's campus closing due to Coronavirus (Food, Housing, Course Materials, Technology, Transportation and/or COVID-19 related medical expenses). The application also requested the total dollar amount of eligible expenses incurred.

As of June 8th, 2020, the College had awarded $435,108 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to 990 students.

After all applications were received, the College determined that many students had need that was unmet based on the initial allocation amounts of $800 and $400. As such, eligibility amounts were increased to $1,400 for Pell recipients and $1,000 for all other students.  Additional awards were made to students based on eligible expenses reported on their applications.

As of June 12th, 2020, the College had awarded all $567,338 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to 1,009 students.

Reporting Requirement for (a)(1) Institutional Portion

Saint Anselm College also received approval for an allocation of $567,338 for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Institutions.  The College had spent the entire amount as of June 30, 2020. The following form outlines the use of funds as allowed by the CARES act.  See the form

For more information on the HEER, please visit the Department’s CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund page.

The College assures that it has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) and American Rescue Plan Act (ARP) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
