Intern Insider - Matt Guzzardi '17

I spent this past summer collaborating with a team to develop world class software as a Technical Intern at Fidelity Investments in Merrimack, NH. Fidelity is a well known financial services company headquartered in Boston, Mass., with offices nationwide. The firm is best known for its mutual funds and 401k services that allow close to 40 million customers to save and invest.
Recently, financial firms have been investing heavily in technology in an effort to provide more and better services to their customers. As the world demands faster service, simpler interfaces, and fresh products, the fin-tech movement continues to grow. As a computer science major at Saint Anselm, I found myself on a software development team working on a new product for Fidelity's publicly traded clients.
The internship forced the collaboration with their team throughout the process of learning technologies that are used for development and testing on the fly. What surprised me most was the consistent and necessary amount of communication that happens on a daily basis to keep everyone on the same page and make sure progress is being made.
The experience allowed me to take the many sought after skills students develop at Saint Anselm to the office and developed them further while gaining real world experience. It was critical for me to apply the knowledge I have acquired in the classroom and see how it comes together in the industry. Working as an intern was a major step and hugely important for me as I move forward in my career.
