Description of the Course: This course examines Spanish history from roughly 1500 to 1800. Topics will include the creation of the Spanish state, political liberty in 'absolutist' Spain, the Spanish empire in Europe and America, the Bourbon reforms of the eighteenth century, the Spanish Church and the Catholic Reformation, and early modern Spanish culture.
