The Complete History of Comedy (Abridged)

The Reduced Shakespeare Company, San Francisco, CA

History has never been this much fun. Or as delightfully mutilated.Bill Brownstein, Montreal Gazette

They're baaaack! Having skewered history, the Bible, and the world's most celebrated playwright, the Reduced Shakespeare Company now tackles The Complete History of Comedy (Abridged). Careening from Aristophanes to Shakespeare, from Moliere to Vaudeville, and from Charlie Chaplin to The Daily Show and Anthony Weiner, 'the bad boys of abridgment' ask the large questions, like: Did cavemen tell Rock-Rock jokes? How do critics make everything sound un-funny? And why did the chicken cross the road? Originating as a pass-the-hat comedy troupe in San Francisco in 1981, The Reduced Shakespeare Company now boasts seven stage shows, two television specials, several failed TV pilots, and numerous radio pieces performed, seen, and heard the world over. With a rotating cast of three shameless actors, the material (much of it penned by Austin Tichenor, former Associate Director of NH's now-defunct American Stage Festival), takes long, serious subjects and reduces them to short, sharp comedies. Horrible puns, much milking of jokes, and a host of outrageous running gags delivered at breakneck speed make The Complete History of Comedy (Abridged) a side-splitting, eye-watering 90-minute romp guaranteed to 'reduce' the whole family to helpless hilarity!
