Abstract

This research involves the impact of identity development on the participant’s fear of intimacy.  In this study, participants are measured on their stages of identity development, and again measured on their fear of intimacy.  Participants completed the  Fear of Intimacy Scale (Deschunter & Thelen, 1991), and the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status (Adams, 1989).  A T-test yielded significance in the  increase of the fear of intimacy in the participants with lower identity status.  No significance was found between genders, or marital statuses.
