2012 Orientation Schedule

Thursday, August 23

 

9 - 11 a.m. Registration at Residence Halls

All new students must first check in at the registration tables in order to gain access to the residence halls.
  • Men: Register at Dominic Hall
  • Women: Register at Joan of Arc Hall
  • Commuters: Register at Cushing Center, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
  • Transfer students: Register at the Office of Residence Life, Alumni Hall
Students arriving after 11 a.m. should report to the Dean of Students office (Alumni Hall) to begin the registration process.
11 a.m. Commuter Student Meeting (Cushing Center, north lounge)

Learn about the challenges and rewards of being a commuting student from administrators and from students who are experienced commuters.
11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch (Davison Hall)

Complimentary lunch provided to students and families.
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
 Getting Settled
  • Mail Center: Stop by the mail center in lower Cushing to pick up your key.
  • Information Technology: Picking up a laptop? Go to Poisson, 104, where the IT department will assist you.
  • Human Resources: If you are planning on working - either through a work-study or a payroll position - you will need to stop by the Human Resources table in the Cushing lobby.
  • College Achievement Program: Students enrolled in the program should stop by the Academic Resource Center, bottom floor, Cushing Center.
  • Bank Accounts: Representatives of St. Mary's, Citizens and TD Bank will be on hand to help you set up an account on the main level of Cushing Student Center.
  • Bookstore: The bookstore will be open for business. Stop by to pick up books for class, and as many Saint Anselm logo items as you can carry.
11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Alumni Family Welcome Reception (Dana Center, lobby)

Come join other students with Saint Anselm family connections for an "all in the family" photo. This is a great opportunity for students and their alumni parents to meet and share their common bond.
12 - 3 p.m.
 Open House at the Multicultural Center (Cushing Center, lower level)

Students and families are welcome to drop in for coffee and conversation with current students.
12 - 3 p.m. Open House at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics

Come meet the NHIOP Student Ambassadors and staff, view the Institutes latest exhibit on the New Hampshire presidential primary, and tour this state-of-the-art facility.
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Study Abroad (Goulet Science Center, room 3100)

Sarah Goolkasian, administrator of Education Abroad, will introduce the options available to Saint Anselm students. Good planning starts early!
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Teacher Education Program Meeting (Gadbois, room 4.)
Students interested in the teacher education program are encouraged to attend this informative meeting. Dr. Laura Wasielewski, chair of the education department will introduce the program and discuss the path to certification.
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Pre-Professional in the Health Sciences (Goulet Science Center, Perini Lecture Hall)

Students interested in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, optometry, pharmacy, or physician assisted programs (not nursing) will hear Dr. Carolyn Weinreb, chief health professions advisor, explain what is necessary to become a competitive applicant for graduate professional programs.
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Pre-Law (Cushing Center, north lounge)

This session will introduce the law school admission process. Anne Harrington, Director of Academic Advisement, will discuss how to become a competitive candidate for law school, including what grades and LSAT scores are needed, and what type of extracurriculars look good on an application.
3 p.m. Family Mass (Abbey Church)

Students and their families are invited to join us for Mass in the Abbey Church.
4 p.m. President's Welcome (Alumni Hall, Quad | In the event of inclement weather, Sullivan Arena)

All new students and their families are invited to join Fr. Jonathan DeFelice, O.S.B., President of the College and other members of the faculty and administration as we welcome you into the Saint Anselm community.
  • Parents: Take time to say goodbye. Student orientation begins at 4:30.
4:30 - 5:15 p.m. Team Meeting #1 (assigned classrooms)

It's time to meet classmates and team leaders and get organized for the evening's activities.  Be sure to check your information packet for your team assignment and location of your team's first meeting.
5:15 - 6:30 p.m. Barbecue Dinner (Grappone Stadium)

Join your orientation team for your class barbecue.
6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Floor Meetings in Residence Halls

8:00 p.m. Five thoughts About College. Mike Weber (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)

It's new...it's exciting...it's scary! Senior year has come and gone and now it's time to start all over. Have fun with this interactive adventure as you realize that your attitude can make or break your freshman year. Discover the five major changes that students need to make to ease the transition to college life.
Late-Night

Explore campus, get to know your new classmates, and check out these activities:

  • Football Scrimmage (Grappone Stadium) cheer on the team as they get ready for the 2012 season!
  • Recreation Night in the Carr Center will feature basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and more. 
  • Board Games in the Academic Resource Center.
  • The Coffee Shop will be open until midnight. bring your meal card and have a snack.

Friday, August 24

 

8:00 a.m. Breakfast with your team (Davison Hall)

Students will use their own I.D. cards and experience a typical Davison Hall meal.
9:15 a.m. Assemble at Stoneface (outside Dana Center)

All students will assemble at Stoneface for a guided tour to meet with their academic department chairperson. 
9:30 a.m. Department Meetings (assigned classrooms)

To better understand the curriculum and key academic policies, students will meet with the chairperson/faculty of their declared major.  Undeclared majors will meet with the Director of Academic Advisement.  Meetings for declared and undeclared students are mandatory. 
10:45 a.m. - 12 p.m. Academic Citizenship  (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)

Library Introduction

12 - 1 p.m. Lunch with your team (Davison Hall)

1 - 5 p.m. Interactive Theatre Project (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)

"Why didn't you?" and "the perfect prey" - two interactive vignettes about topical campus issues.

Around Saint A's in 80 minutes - the ultimate scavenger hunt (begins on the Quad)
6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Dinner with your team (Davison Hall)

Students will use their own I.D. cards
7:30 p.m. Holly Greenston: Alcohol and the First Year College Student (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)
8:30 p.m. "Michael Kent: Comedian, Magician" (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)

In a style reminiscient of a late-night talk show, Michael invites the audience to laugh with him at the absurdity of a modern-day magician. He combines his sarcastic and irreverent sense of humor with mind-blowing magic.
Late-Night Explore campus, get to know your new classmates, and check out these activities:
  • Movie on the Quad
  • Recreation Night in the Carr Center will feature basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and more.
  • Board Games in the Academic Resource Center.
  • Music in the Coffee Shop Acoustic rock with crisp harmonies, soothing melodies, and eloquent lyrics. Hang out with friends after a long day, listening to music and enjoiyng a snack.

Saturday, August 25

 

9 - 10 a.m. Breakfast with your team (Davison Hall)

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Anselmian Class Induction Ceremony | Class Picture (Dana Center | Grappone Stadium)
12 - 1 p.m. Lunch with your team (Davison Hall)

Students will use their own I.D. cards.
1 p.m. Afternoon programs
  • Fitness classes in Cushing Center, North Lounge
  •  
    • 2 p.m. Self-defense class
    • 3 p.m. Zumba
    • 4 p.m. Yoga
  • The Fitness Center and Carr Activities Center are open
  • Drunk busters and the "golf cart challenge"
  • Free rides to Walmart and Target
6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Class of 2016 Banquet (Davison Hall)

Come celebrate the "official" start of the academic year and witness the raising of the Class of 2016 banner in Davison! The banquet will provide an opportunity for you to dress up and socialize with your new classmates. Fr. Jonathan, President of the College, will address the class. (Semi-formal attire required!) 
8 - 10 p.m. Hypnotist Paul Ramsay (Dana Center, Koonz Theatre)

Local hypnotist Paul Ramsay will keep you laughing as he takes you on a journey into the mind.
Late-Night Explore campus, get to know your new classmates, and check out these activities:
  • Cushing Center: Music on the Lower Deck: refreshments and giveaways!
  • The Coffee shop will be open until midnight. Bring your meal card and have a snack.
