Professor Kate Galloway joins the Saint Anselm faculty as an assistant professor in the Biology Department. Having earned a B.S. from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an M.S. from Florida Atlantic University, Galloway would go on to earn her Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University. Galloway will be teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology for biology majors and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. Her research focuses on functional morphology and biomechanics- the form and function of organismal structures. She often works with invasive species because of how successful they are in their environments. Galloway has aninterest in ecomorphology, known as ecological morphology, which investigates how an organism's anatomical structure is influenced by and influences its ecological niche or environment.

Some of her past projects and publications include how invasive lionfish venomous spines function in response to different forces and stresses, lionfish cranial morphology, and how invasive apple snail shells may be affected by fluctuations in pH and temperature.

At Saint Anselm College, Galloway’s lab will focus on the diversity and anatomy of organisms such as invasive species, while using biomechanical approaches to answer questions related to function. She hopes to continue mentoring and publishing with undergraduates and aims to apply her background in biomechanics to local species of ecological importance in New Hampshire to provide easily accessible and sustainable research opportunities for students.
