Saint Anselm College defines first generation as any student whose parents did not graduate from a four year college or university. This means that you are the first in your family to attend a four-year college or university to attain a bachelor's degree. Being first-generation is a very proud accomplishment. We recognize that you will face unique experiences as you begin this exciting journey, and we look forward to supporting you along the way.
Approximately 21% of the Saint Anselm College student population are first generation.
As the first in your family to attend college, you may be experiencing much excitement as well as nervousness about the upcoming year. You may be wondering about what to expect as a student at Saint Anselm College.
FirstGen is a new initiative that supports the success of Saint Anselm students who identify as first-generation college students. Through FirstGen, the Father Jonathan Center for Intercultural Learning and Inclusion serves as a resource for students to ensure a smooth and successful transition from high School to College and beyond. Throughout the academic year we provide academic and social opportunities, by hosting events and workshops, send out a monthly newsletter and highlight events of interest. We also spotlight members of our FirstGen community, including students, alumni, faculty and staff.
We welcome your feedback and ideas for future events and workshops for FirstGen students and are pleased that we can adapt our programs to meet the never changing needs and interests.
If you identify as a first generation student, please let us know, so that we can keep you informed of relevant programs, services and opportunities. You can sign up for the Saint Anselm FirstGen group by emailing: email@example.com
