Olaf Tollefsen Memorial Lecture

7:30 pm EST - 8:30 pm EST
Location: New Hampshire Institute of Politics

Philosophy Professor Robert Anderson will offer this year’s Olaf Tollefsen Memorial Lecture, “Reflections on Basic Human Goods Fifty Years Later.” The revival of the natural law tradition in ethics that was spearheaded fifty years ago by Germain Grisez, John Finnis, Joseph Boyle, and Olaf Tollefsen is built on a thick theory of human goods. Specifically, the list of human goods included in that thick theory is rich, diverse, detailed, and more or less comprehensive. The lecture will make some observations about that list.

Professor Anderson’s lecture will appropriately commemorate the work and memory of Dr. Olaf Tollefsen. Dr. Tollefson taught in the Philosophy Department at Saint Anselm College beginning in 1975 until his death in 1989. Besides being a beloved and legendary professor and colleague at Saint Anselm, he was an important figure in the development of New Natural Theory.
