The Saint Anselm Community is saddened to announce the passing of NursingProfessor Emerita Martha Ann Lynch. Martha dedicated her life to education, nursing, and service to others.
Born in Lowell, Mass., on June 14, 1941, Lynch was the daughter of the late Dr. Solomon Hajjar and Elizabeth (Morris) Hajjar. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy (class of 1958) and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College. She later received a Master's Degree in Nursing from Boston University and earned a Doctorate in Education from Vanderbilt University.
Throughout her distinguished career, Lynch inspired generations of nurses and healthcare professionals, especially her granddaughter Sarah. She began her career in education at the Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing and eventually became a distinguished and cherished professor of pediatric nursing at Saint Anselm College. She eventually retired as Professor Emerita of Nursing from Saint Anselm and in retirement, she continued her commitment to caring for others by volunteering as a school nurse at St. Margaret's School.
Lynch passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Lynch. She is survived by her sister and brother, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Martha’s legacy will also be perpetuated by the hundreds of nursing professionals whom she trained during her time as a professor, many of whom still speak fondly of their time under her expertise, describing her as a force to be reckoned with and a truly unmatched nurse and educator.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex Street, North Chelmsford.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, Lowell.
