The Carr Center was transformed into a magical winter wonderland on Saturday, December 2, 2023, for the 32nd annual Children’s Holiday Fair, hosted by the Meelia Center for Community Engagement. This free event was open to the public and welcomed families from around the Manchester area. In addition to crafts, games, and food, Santa Claus was available for photos and the Hawks football team offered “sleigh rides.”

“The Annual Children’s Holiday Fair is one of our favorite traditions,” said Nicole Lora `06, the director for the Meelia Center. “It is a time when the college opens our doors to our neighbors to celebrate together and it brings so much joy to everyone involved. We are thankful for the college’s support, the student leaders and volunteers who made the event happen, and our community members who make this event so special every year.”

Another fun treat was sponsored by the UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Inc., with Milky Way, the miniature horse, who made an appearance for snuggles and photos with the children and college students.

“This is my second year to volunteer,” said psychology major Nick Savage ’24, who played Santa Claus. “I love all of the fun and joy. And I heard some good requests from the kids for Christmas presents.”

The Children’s Holiday Fair also welcomed Saint Anselm’s beloved alumni back to the Hilltop. “This is our second time coming with the kids,” said Stephanie Dahlberg ‘14, who attended the event with her family and volunteered at the Holiday Fair during her time at the College. “The students are always so welcoming, so kind. We always have a great time coming here.”

According to Allyn Doyle, director of Community Engaged Learning in the Meelia Center, the 32nd Holiday Fair gathered 327 Manchester community members, along with 197 student volunteers, 24 clubs, and five athletic teams.
