
Dr. Michael Lewis has been elected the 12th president of Saint Anselm College. He will begin serving his term on July 1, 2026.
Dr. Lewis received his BSc in Chemistry from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1996 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, MO in 2001. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Harvard University from 2001 to 2004.
At Saint Louis University, Dr. Lewis has been the Provost and Chief Academic Officer since 2020. In this role, he is responsible for the fulfillment of the University’s mission through the leadership and oversight of the academic enterprise, including student development, research and scholarship, and enrollment management. Dr. Lewis has led numerous transformative initiatives at Saint Louis University to advance the academic mission of the institution, including the development and implementation of the Academic Strategic Plan. He works closely with the deans and vice presidents to advance all academic strategic priorities, and he is responsible for the development of, and adherence to, the academic affairs budget.
Dr. Lewis joined Saint Louis University’s Department of Chemistry in 2004. As a faculty member, he received multiple teaching awards and authored numerous scholarly publications. His administrative career began in 2013 when he became Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Development. In that role, Dr. Lewis led University-level initiatives related to faculty development, faculty hiring, contracts, promotion and tenure policies, workload policies and other efforts aimed at serving SLU faculty members and departments. In addition, he served as the Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Lewis was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He and his wife, Heather, have two children. Jack is a sophomore at Loyola University – Chicago and Grace is a junior at Ursuline Academy High School.
