Becoming a Nurse Writer: Using Writing to Advance the Profession of Nursing and Accelerate Individual Career Growth

As we enter a post pandemic healthcare world, never has it been more important for nurses to share their voices. Year after year, nurses have been deemed the most trusted profession by the public, so what we have to say matters. This workshop will explore the ways in which nurses can use writing to not only advance the profession and impact the future of health care but also accelerate their own career growth. Writing can be for the self, as a means of processing challenging clinical experiences (Hello! Pandemic!), writing academically for other nurses and health professionals, or writing for the general public with blogs or news articles. Topics include: Idea generation, writing for journals and getting published, and sharing your voice with the public through blogs and articles.

The Good Life at Stake: Democracy vs. Authoritarianism

Join us on Friday, April 4th for a discussion on Democracy vs. Authoritarianism. Global politics is increasingly depicted as a struggle between democracy and authoritarianism. Meanwhile, in America, democracy is being dragged into destructive partisan political battles. Professor Thomson from Arizona State University will discuss what is at stake when we discuss democracy and authoritarianism today, and what we as citizens can expect from American democracy.

About the speaker:

Dr. Henry Thomson is a political economist and Associate Professor in the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University. Originally from New Zealand, he studied Political Science, Economics, International Relations and German literature at Wellington, Tübingen, Berlin and Minnesota. Before joining ASU he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. His research focuses on economic development, authoritarian regimes and democracy

Designing and Implementing Simulation Scenarios is one module of four towards a Healthcare Simulation Educator Certificate


DESCRIPTION: This innovative online certificate program is designed to explore the various components necessary to develop and run simulation scenarios within an academic or clinical setting.

WHO: Any nurse practicing in an education role who is interested in developing or working in a simulation program. This would be applicable to nurse educators in academia or healthcare facilities, preceptors, mentors, or staff nurses who are interested in learning more about this teaching pedagogy.

WHY: The content will provide the nuts and bolts of simulation to include how to assess educational needs, develop, implement and evaluate simulation experiences.

WHAT: In order to receive this 60-hour certificate (equal to 60 contact hours), completion of the four modules is required. Each module is 15 contact hours and is taught in an online format: 6 hours virtual live webinar, 9 hours online utilizing discussion boards and case studies, and required reading over the course of 4 weeks in an asynchronous manner.


DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING SIMULATION SCENARIOS

This module begins on October 1, 2025 and concludes on October 24th.

Topics: nursing education simulation framework incorporating roles of facilitator and participant, educational practices, simulation outcomes and design characteristics.

Learning Outcome: Upon successful completion of this module, the participant will be able to discuss the important components of simulation design and important aspects to consider for simulation scenario implementation in both the hospital and academic settings

Dr. Barbara Kolm, former Vice-President of the Austrian Central Bank, and EU lawyer Pieter Cleppe will present insights into the current economic landscapes of the U.S. and EU. Following their discussions, AIER researcher Peter Earle will delve into the pressing matter of increasing global de-dollarization and its repercussions for the U.S. economy. About the Speakers

Barbara Kolm is the founder of the Free Market Road Show, Director of the Austrian Economics Center, President of the Hayek Institute and Professor of Austrian Economics at the University of Donja Gorica in Montenegro.

Pieter Cleppe (LL.M) is a Brussels-based Policy Analyst, focused on EU affairs, Brexit, and the Eurozone. He’s the editor-in-chief of BrusselsReport.eu, an online magazine covering EU affairs, and a Research Fellow for U.S. think tank Property Rights Alliance. He is also a columnist for U.S. National Review Online, The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator and a frequent commentator in European and international media.

Peter C. Earle is a senior economist at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). He joined AIER in 2018, prior to which he spent over 20 years as a trader and analyst at several securities firms and hedge funds in the New York metropolitan area including Schwab Capital Markets, Fahnestock & Co., Roy G. Niederhoffer Capital Management and others, as well as starting and running a cryptocurrency consultancy (Intangible Economics, LLC).
