Kathleen Crowley ‘26 | Community and Public Health major

Talk to literally everyone [at Saint Anselm] because everyone is always friendly. They’ll say hi even if you’ve only met them once.

— Kathleen Crowley '26

Kathleen Crowley ’26 hopes to work in healthcare after graduating. When she switched majors as a junior, Crowley felt supported and empowered by Saint Anselm College faculty. She attributes their willingness to help with landing her undergraduate internship at Catholic Medical Center (CMC) and deeply admires the impactful relationships she’s built with both professors and students on campus.

How did you choose to be a Community and Public Health major?

I knew I wanted to do something in the healthcare field, but I wasn’t sure entirely what. I was originally a Nursing major and I chose to switch majors as a junior. A lot of the classes align across those majors (except for the nursing specific ones), so it was an easy transition! I like that public health has a wide range of things to learn about.

How have you felt supported in your studies?

Since the Community and Public Health Program is on the smaller side, the students and faculty have a great relationship. You really get to know your professors well and they are always there to help you. I’ve had Professor Tauna Sisco three times, and I’ve had some professors even more than that! You can set up meetings with them really easily. They can help coordinate internships and with any other coursework!

Have you participated in any internships?

Yes, I am interning at CMC with three other students. I’m doing infection prevention so it’s a lot of rounding and monitoring if they are using the correct PPE (personal protective equipment). Right now, we’re doing a project focused on CHG wipes and women who have c-sections. I wouldn’t have gotten the internship if I didn’t take Epidemiology. It’s a required class but my professor pulled a few of us aside and said that we would be great at CMC. Faculty really get to know you so well and understand what you are most interested in.

What’s your go-to study spot?

I’m a huge library person. There’s this room on the first floor of Geisel Library (I don’t know what it’s actually called), but my friends and I call it the Red Room! During midterms and finals my friends and I go there to study.

Are you involved on the Hilltop?

I am a part of the Koinonia Society which is a service society. It’s based in Manchester and we do things like grocery shopping for families and children in need. I also have participated in Relay for Life and Foster and Adoptive Parents Night Out (FAPNO) through the Meelia Center for Community Engagement. In my free time, I like hanging out with my friends and going for walks around campus when it’s nice out.

Why would you recommend Saint Anselm to prospective students?

Since the classes are small, the relationships between students and faculty are great. You can really get to know them and take advantage of their resources. They are always there to help you. My biggest advice to incoming freshmen would be don’t be nervous! Talk to literally everyone because everyone is always friendly. They’ll say hi even if you’ve only met them once.

Do you know what you want to do after graduation?

I’m actually looking to go back to nursing for a graduate degree. I want to work in oncology or something like that. I’m starting to apply so hopefully I’ll get accepted!
