Join Max Boot, historian and author of Reagan: His Life and Legend, for a discussion on Ronald Reagan's life, his influence on American politics, and impact on U.S. foreign policy, moderated by Drew Cline, president of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy.

About the author:

Max Boot is a historian, best-selling author, and foreign-policy analyst. He is the Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and a columnist for The Washington Post. His latest book, Reagan: His Life and Legend, was a New York Times bestseller and named one of the Ten Best Books of 2024. Boot has also written The Road Not Taken, The Corrosion of Conservatism, and Invisible Armies. He has contributed to CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Foreign Policy, and advised the campaigns of John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Marco Rubio.

About the moderator:

Drew Cline is president of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy in New Hampshire. Previously, he was editorial page editor of the New Hampshire Union Leader. Cline has written for over 100 publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, National Review, and The Washington Post.

Democracy and Liberty Colloquium

We invite you to participate in the upcoming Democracy and Liberty Colloquium, hosted by the Center for Ethics in Society and facilitated by Philosophy Professor Tom Larson and Dr. Henry Thomson from Arizona State University. This event promises a weekend of thoughtful study, reflection, and engaging conversations about excerpts from Joseph Schumpeter's Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy and Timothy Garton Ash's The Magic Lantern. Students will read nearly 100 pages in preparation for this colloquium and will receive a $150 stipend for their participation.

Dr. Thomson's bio: 

Dr. Henry Thomson is a political economist and Associate Professor in the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University. Originally from New Zealand, he studied Political Science, Economics, International Relations and German literature at Wellington, Tübingen, Berlin and Minnesota. Before joining ASU he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. His research focuses on economic development, authoritarian regimes, and democracy.
