When deciding what to major in, what was your career goal?

I knew I wanted to study math and secondary education to become a middle school math teacher. What I learned from my math courses at Saint Anselm has helped me to apply my well-rounded knowledge in the classroom.

So, you’re teaching now! Where are you and how is it going?

I am a 7th grade math teacher at Hanscom Middle School! The Hanscom School is a K-8 school that serves students who are dependents of military personnel that reside on the Hanscom Air Force Base. It offers a high-quality public education to the students that attend while also providing the necessary supports that they may need when transitioning in and out of new schools. I am so happy to be a part of the Hanscom team, and I truly love my job!

How was your clinical education experience at Saint Anselm College?

Elementary and Secondary Education majors were paired with their prospective clinical educator teacher thoughtfully and thoroughly according to each student's interests and teaching style. Students were placed into the classroom as early as sophomore year, with the intent that pre-service educators could get comfortable in the field and gain a sense of which environment they would like to teach. The clinical experience at Saint Anselm College was a very unique and rewarding experience.

During your time at Saint Anselm, were you a part of any clubs or organizations?

I was involved in the Meelia Center for Community Engagement in various roles, but for a majority of my time at Saint Anselm, I was an Access Academy instructor. I started doing Access Academy in the fall semester of my sophomore year, up until the fall semester of my senior year. The program introduced me to so many people and helped me create relationships with other students at the College. It also helped me gain invaluable experience teaching diverse learners in a classroom setting, beneficial toward my future career goals.

What advice would you give incoming students who want to pursue education as a career?
