President Michael Lewis stands in the Saint Anselm Library

Dr. Michael Lewis is the 12th president of Saint Anselm College. He began his tenure on July 1, 2026. 

Dr. Lewis comes to Saint Anselm from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., where he served as the provost and chief academic officer from 2020 to 2026, and prior to that in other academic leadership roles from 2013-2020. As provost, he led numerous transformative initiatives at Saint Louis University to advance the academic mission of the institution, including the development and implementation of the Academic Strategic Plan. Dr. Lewis joined Saint Louis University’s Department of Chemistry in 2004. As a faculty member, he received multiple teaching awards and authored numerous scholarly publications. 

Dr. Lewis received his BSc in Chemistry from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1996 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, MO in 2001. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Harvard University from 2001 to 2004. He and his wife, Heather, have two children, Jack and Grace.
