In this course, you’ll be introduced to the concepts and mathematics behind modern AI. Through engaging readings, real-world case studies and hands-on exploration, you’ll learn about AI’s limitations, bias and inaccuracies, and the societal and ethical implications of its use. This class empowers students to study AI without losing their voice or values, and become responsible, informed users across academic and professional contexts.

Topics You'll Study

Throughout your coursework, you’ll explore the role of AI to better understand it as a tool and its potential pitfalls and impact on individuals and society. You’ll study a variety of topics, including:

AI’s use in organizational design and policy development as a branding and communication tool
Conceptual foundations and real-world examples of AI’s potential bias and devastating consequences
Ethical reasoning, critical thinking and human-centered approaches
Probability distributions and their application to statistical inference

There are no prerequisites for the AI for Business Leaders certificate, though some courses overlap with major and minor requirements. No more than one course may overlap to ensure that certificates offer additional value to existing programs.
