Gary Bouchard, Ph.D., English professor and Humanities Institute Director

Gary Bouchard, PhD has been an active teacher and scholar in the English Department at Saint Anselm College since 1987. A specialist in the poetry of Early Modern England, he has taught a wide variety of courses in literature and rhetoric and is the author of numerous scholarly articles and two books. He has specialized for the past two decades on the life and work and influence of the sixteenth century priest and poet, Robert Southwell, SJ (1561-1595)

Gary has served in a number of administrative capacities at Saint Anselm during his career and served the local community on a variety of non-profit boards. He is the founder and host of the College’s popular annual Marathon Sonnet Reading Festival on Shakespeare’s Birthday and has been a called upon in a variety of venues to articulate Saint Anselm’s Catholic, Benedictine, and Liberal Arts mission.
