Giving Tuesday Total Tops $10K at Saint Anselm College
November 30, 2017
Saint Anselm’s Giving Tuesday outreach has ten thousand reasons to celebrate. Early tallies show 190 donors making 194 gifts, totaling $10,425 dollars.
“We are excited to report that our Anselmian community rallied to give in excess of our original $5,000 goal for our Giving Tuesday drive,” said Jennifer Lorrain, executive director of annual giving at Saint Anselm College. “We are truly grateful to our benefactors.”
The focus for Saint Anselm’s Giving Tuesday was to raise support for students to go on Service and Solidarity Mission trips. Service and Solidarity Missions are student-led service trips overseen by Campus Ministry during winter and spring breaks.
“Wow! We are truly blessed, thank you! The success of this campaign and the contributions will have a significant impact on our students and the communities in which they are serving,” added Sue Gabert, Ed.D., ’91 director of Campus Ministry. “This was a great lesson in crowdfunding for our students and our supporters. The contributions from Saint Anselm’s Giving Tuesday will be of significant assistance in helping us meet the $160,000 cost for the 18 upcoming mission trips.”
More than 250 Saint Anselm students are signed up to participate in mission trips to 18 sites during the upcoming Winter and Spring Alternative Breaks. According to Joseph M. Horton, Ed.D., ’77, vice president for student affairs, these mission trips enable students to learn about Catholic social teaching, while spending time living and working with those most in need. “On behalf of our student volunteers and the communities they will serve, thank you so much to all our benefactors for supporting these life-changing missions, that do so much good in the world and are such a beloved Anselmian tradition."
Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season. Saint Anselm College joined the Giving Tuesday movement for the first time this year to inspire the entire extended Anselmian family to collaborate and give back in impactful ways to the college.
Plans are already underway to participate in Giving Tuesday again next year, according to project lead, Ashlee (Bailey) Demers ’08, associate director of annual giving. “While we are sincerely thanking all of our donors for participating in this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign to support our students going on Service Mission trips, we are also earnestly asking our supporters to mark November 27, 2018 on their calendars and participate again next year.”
